Overview
Leica QCoating is a digital image analysis application available as a single module or as part of the Leica QMetals suite. Leica QCoating rapidly identifies coatings on the surface of a specimen, measuring coating thickness analysis or width of a coating at multiple positions along a sample such as a layer of one metal applied to another to protect it, or a layer of paint.

Industry Standards
Leica QCoating offers the user a comprehensive selection of coating thickness analysis techniques, which identify variations in the width of the coating in a field on the basis of contrast, irrespective of the type of material concerned. By identifying the appropriate industry standard, the user can be confident that the analysis process conforms to their particular laboratory requirements. Leica QCoating conforms to these industry standards: ASTM B 487, BS 411, ISO 1463.
Measurement Methods
Leica QCoating offers three methods of measuring coating thickness: 1. Manually - where the user controls the mouse to draw lines across the coating 2. Semi-automatically - the coating is automatically detected, using the mouse the user indicates where to perform the measurement 3. Fully automatically - Leica QCoating both detects and measures the coating thickness.

It is important to be able to measure coating thickness for both economic and quality reasons and Leica QCoating can be used to measure, for example, a layer of one metal applied to another to protect it, or a layer of paint. Compared with traditional manual techniques, Leica QCoating provides a significant improvement in laboratory productivity. Not only does it have greater sample throughput capability and measurement repeatability, but it is also, in its automatic modes, inherently objective, and therefore more accurate.
Confidence in Conformity
Leica QCoating offers the user a comprehensive selection of coating thickness analysis techniques, which identify variations in the width of the coating in a field on the basis of contrast, irrespective of the type of material concerned. By identifying the appropriate industry standard, the user can be confident that the analysis process conforms to their particular laboratory requirements.

Analysis History, Database and User Configurable Reports
Leica QCoating identifies coatings on the surface of a specimen, imaged by an optical microscope. The coating thickness is measured at multiple positions to produce tabulated results.
Results can be stored in an integrated database, where a search facility can quickly find the results of a particular analysis using unique information such as customer, specimen type, data, operator, etc. Traceability is ensured, providing analysis history for incorporation into local GLP procedures.
