Leica has developed a new generation of laboratory instruments with the specific aim of matching the increasing automation of laboratory processes.
Previously, Leica Microsystems Nussloch GmbH had been buying laboratory equipment from Vision Instruments Ltd. in Australia. However, now this supply contract has expired, the Leica Nussloch factory has started making its own laboratory products.
This project is a dual challenge for the factory: on the one hand the production of the required quantities valued at 15 million euros before the end of the fiscal year 2002, on the other a substantial improvement in costs and quality. This has entailed extensive changes to the factory during the development phase already. To solve space problems, factory logistics were optimized. Extra space was created, for example, by installing lift systems for the storage of small parts.
