Global Control by Full System Integration

Published: 10.09.09

Immediate access
Delivering the most immediate access to all relevant parameters was paramount in the development of the Leica TCS SMD Series. All SMD specific components are coupled to the confocal system Leica TCS SP5 II either optically or via an Ethernet connection.

Remote control by Ethernet connection
The LAS AF (Leica Application Suite Advanced Fluorescence) software and the SMD analysis software SymPhoTime run on separate PCs to maximize performance of each software package. A comprehensive Ethernet based client-server connection synchronizes both packages. Via this connection the LAS AF confocal software remotely controls the entire data acquisition process. All relevant experimental parameters are set up in the LAS AF, which means that the user can concentrate on the computer which runs LAS AF and controls the whole experiment via one interface.

Fitting to LAS AF philosophy
The LAS F software includes dedicated FCS and FLIM application wizards guiding the user step-by-step through SMD experiments. The high degree of automation allows new recording strategies. The user interface of the specific SMD wizards resembles the general LAS AF user interface. This facilitates the operation of the total system. Optional application wizards, such as FRET and FRAP, complement the SMD application wizards.

Special features

  • The transfer of meta data from LAS AF to SymPhoTime facilitates documentation and data management
  • Stable long term experiments record sample dynamics over a long time range
  • Online SMD data display and interactive feedback grants a tight control of data quality
  • Tailored application wizards lead quickly and easily to reproducible, meaningful results
  • Intelligent presets save time and increase the efficiency in the configuration of an SMD experiment
