The new Leica TCS SMD Series perfectly integrates the confocal microscope TCS SP5 II and the single molecule detection software and hardware from PicoQuant into one system.
The well proven components constitute a flexible platform for a plethora of time resolved techniques including FCS (Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy), FCCS (Fluorescence Cross-Correlation Spectroscopy), FLIM (Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging) and former combinations as FLCS (Fluorescence Lifetime Correlation Spectroscopy)and gated FCS.
The global system control and its elegant interface opens the door to a multitude of biophysical techniques which provide quantitative parameters for model building.
Single molecule detection (SMD) and analysis is an elegant way to examine dynamics and interactions inside cellular systems. This includes quantitative characterization of biochemical reaction kinetics and equilibrum on a molecular level. Along with these single molecule-rated methods conventional spectral confocal imaging techniques help to maximize the extracted information inherent to fluorescence.
