The observation of rapid biological processes requires high-speed imaging systems. Traditional confocal scanning microscopy has an inherent handicap of serial image collection. Leica Microsystems overcomes this handicap with the Tandem Scanner, a large FOV scanner switchable with a resonant scanning system. An all new second generation white light laser (WLL) rounds off the most innovative laser source for confocal imaging with much improved image quality for live cell imaging. This is achieved thanks to the unique Lightgate technology for maximal image contrast under most challenging conditions. Combine a super-continuum source for fluorescence lifetime imaging  with literally trillions of excitation combinations and the unique “lambda squared” excitation-emission scan -  thanks to the AOBS. You are effectively turning your confocal instrument into a multi-modal, multi-spectral spatially resolved photonics laboratory. All new possibilities are waiting to be explored.
