While the range of topics has been maintained, the scope and level of sophistication have since changed from being a house organ primarily concerned with instrument features to a recognized professional journal of microscopical science and application of microscope systems.

The rapid development of modern communication media and their world-wide use have influenced the mode of distributing our Scientific and Technical Information: printed issues were replaced by CD-ROM editions in 1998.
Since 2001 Scientific and Technical Information is published worldwide on the internet as an option to a still available CD-ROM.
