Leica CM1850 UV

Cryostat for routine histology

Overview

Leica CM1850 UV clinical cryostat with AgProtect surface coating

The Leica CM1850 UV incorporates the proven excellent features of its predecessor - and much more. It is equipped with an optimized refrigeration system affording extremely short specimen freezing times.

The cryochamber can be disinfected quickly and effectively at any time with ultra-violet light (UVC) for increased operator safety. UV surface disinfection significantly reduces the danger of infection by bacteria, spores and viruses.

Leica’s new, antimicrobial nano-silver coating, AgProtect™, provides outstanding protection to cryostat users by reducing exposure to surface pathogens. Leica’s AgProtect™ covers the cryostat’s outside surfaces and protects the operator and other individuals in the work area by penetrating the membranes of microbes to prevent replication. The outstanding safety of the CM1850 UV has been tested and certified by an independent laboratory.

Detailed Description

The Leica CM1850 UV clinical cryostat with AgProtect™ provides an extra level of security for operators. An antibacterial silver coating of critical areas on the outside surface of the instrument effectively reduces the propagation of infectious agents without operator interaction. Silver (Ag) ions are well documented for their ability to reduce bacterial growth. UV disinfection in the cryochamber of the CM1850 UV has been proven and certified by an independent laboratory to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB), vegetative bacteria, avian flu and most viruses and fungi.

The Leica CM1850 UV with AgProtect™ - Leica’s anti-microbial coating for added safety - provides a unique level of operator protection and improves laboratory safety without generating condensation, toxic fumes, residues or contaminated liquid waste.

The perfectly illuminated and insulated spacious cryochamber is easily accessible through a large heated sliding window. Ample space is provided for convenient specimen handling. Smooth surfaces inside without sharp edges ensure safe and easy cleaning. Sensors ensure that the UVC lamp can be switched-on only when the sliding window is completely closed.

An actively cooled freezing shelf allows extremely fast specimen freezing down to -60 °C with the Peltier unit. Manual defrosting prevents icing of the freezing shelf, ensuring that it is always ready for use.

The lateral displacement feature of the CE knife holder for disposable blades allows the use of the entire blade length without repositioning the blade. A patented glass anti-roll guide integrated into the holder is automatically positioned with blade movement. With the new CE knife holder serial sections down to 3 µm are easily obtained.

The self-explanatory control panel is divided into functional groups. Large, easy-to-read LEDs ensure ease of operation and prevent operating errors.

The motorized coarse feed control is ergonomically positioned in the left arm rest. Two speed settings are available for either fast or slow specimen advance and return as well as for trimming.

The microtome is protected by a slot cover to allow easy and safe spray disinfection with commercial spray disinfectants.
