A high quality comparison bridge is the center of the Leica FS M. The bridge supports two precisely matched sets of apochromatic corrected objectives on quintuple ball-bearing nosepieces. An ingenious opto- mechanical design provides split image view, full left and right view as well as superimposed imaging of the objects. By rotating the conveniently located split-image knob, the field is continuously adjusted between viewing the left and right object. Full left or full right viewing as well as switching between all imaging modes, is achieved in less than a second. The operator has the possibility to adjust the split line- width and tilt.
The familiar excellent workmanship and superior optics provide 22mm field of view with erect, unreversed images. The image moves in the same direction as the object for quick and easy manipulation of the specimen.

The Leica FS M features telecentric objectives with built-in iris diaphragms to further enhance contrast and increase the depth of field. All objectives are long working, APO Macro quality for ultimate high contrast reproduction of evidence. The parfocal objectives permit quick examination of specimens under different magnifications without complicated time consuming refocusing when changing from one objective to another. The nosepiece may be rotated through 360 degree allowing the objectives to be positioned as desired. This facilitates manipulation and orientation of the evidence and precise illumination of critical details. The Leica FS M provides an always calibrated and certified scenario.
All objectives are critically and precisely matched left-to right, to assure identical magnification and color. The entire optical system guarantees comparisons with less than 0,5% deviation in magnification. Two optional low power objectives are also available which are particularly useful for document comparison and large toolmark work. They provide exceptional large fields of view of up to 160mm.
The optical system also includes a variety of binocular and trinocular observation tubes for comfortable long term viewing. The focusable 10x eyepieces compensates for difference in visual acuity and provide a large 22mm field of view and high eyepoint for eyeglass wearers.

A variety of specimen holding-accessories are provided to handle fired-ammunition parts, objects bearing toolmarks, documents and other objects, including those which are deformed. This ranges from a very basic set of brush-holders to purpose-built individual holding devices.
The inclination, rotation and sliding mechanisms integrated in the universal adjustable holder, enables even critical objects to be optimally aligned to the focus plane of the objectives, to the illumination and to the impressions with which they are to be compared. Mountable onto the mechanical stages, the tilting stages have a surface diameter of 80 mm. Objects can be inclined up to 45° and clamped at any angle.
Special mountable stages are available for large objects up to 8,5 x 11 inch (documents or large objects with tool marks). Paper and thin objects are held by magnets.
