3D Technology and HD Recording for Ophthalmic Microscopes at ASCRS/ASOA on April 25 to 29

At the Annual Symposium and Congress of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) (http://annualmeeting.ascrs.org/) on April 25 to 29 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, Leica Microsystems, TrueVision®3D Surgical, and MedXChange® will showcase the latest innovations in 3D computer-guidance technology and surgical recording for ophthalmic microsurgery at Leica Microsystems’ booth #1833. They present the world’s first surgical microscope with built-in TrueVision®3D smart computer-guidance and the MedXChange® Evolution HD™ system.

At the Annual ASCRS/ASOA Symposium and Congress from April 25 to April 29, Leica Microsystems and TrueVision® 3D Surgical (http://www.truevisionsys.com/), a world leader in neuro and ophthalmic 3D surgical visualization and guidance, will present the TrueVision®3D smart visualization and recording system for the Leica M822 and Leica M844 surgical microscopes. This new system combines the high quality optics and illumination of Leica Microsystems with the innovative 3D visualization and recording system of TrueVision®. This innovation simplifies the OR by integrating the entire 3D technology into the microscope, so no additional carts are needed. Also, the entire surgical team, as well as students, can observe every step of the operation and learn more easily without interrupting the workflow or the recording.

Together with MedXChange® (http://medxchange.com/), a medical device manufacturer of high definition video recording and documentation systems for surgical environments, Leica Microsystems showcases the innovative surgical recording system MedXChange® Evolution HD™, compatible with Leica Microsystems’ ophthalmic surgical microscopes (http://www.leica-microsystems.com/products/surgical-microscopes/). This digital recording system provides full 1080p high definition video and still images in commonly used formats like H.264, mp4, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, and PNG. With the new MedXChange® MedXStream™ App, surgeons can copy videos and stills wirelessly or via SD card to their portable devices and instantly review, playback, download, and share their recordings with students, colleagues or other interested parties.

Besides showing new technologies, there will also be a special practical demonstration. Charlie Reid, an expert physiotherapist, will provide personalized ergonomic assessments to surgeons on their working posture a the surgical microscope. Participants can explore the wide range of the Leica Microsystems’ height-adjustable binocular tubes and other ergonomic accessories, while the expert explains how the body can be given optimal support to perform comfortably, even after long hours of surgery using a microscope.
