Congratulations to Karl Deisseroth for winning the Lurie Prize in Biomedical Sciences!

By pioneering these fields Deisseroth greatly expanded the understanding of brain function, and diseases like Parkinson’s, schizophrenia and depression. Leica Microsystems is proud to congratulate its collaboration partner in developing a dedicated CLARITY objective Karl Deisseroth for this achievement.

Optogenetics uses light for precise control of genetically modified neurons, which allows to determine their function. CLARITY is a method of optically clearing a tissue like the brain. This allows scientists to observe brain structure and neuronal circuits on molecular resolution.

The Lurie Prize by the FNIH recognizes outstanding achievements by a promising scientist age 52 or younger. Karl Deisseroth is the third to be awarded with this Prize.
