However, specifications for particle size, shape, type, class boundaries and applicable standard vary from industry to industry. That’s why Leica Cleanliness Expert software modules are compatible with a wide range of different Leica Microsystems microscopes. From the fully automated system with top-performance optics all the way through to the compact digital measuring station we can provide the right combination of microscope, camera and software to meet any quality control specifications.

System solution with the fully automated microscopes Leica DM4000 M LED or Leica DM6000 M

Particularly for the analysis of hydraulic-pneumatic components such as turbochargers or gears, information on the third dimension is highly important. For such applications, Leica Cleanliness Expert and the microscopes Leica DM4000 M LED or Leica DM6000 M offer the option of measuring particle height as well as length and breadth for even more accurate determination of damage potential. The high- performance optics allow standard-compliant measurement of particles as small as 5 µm.  The microscope automatically differentiates between reflective and non-reflective particles for a preliminary assessment of metallic and hard particle content.

Both microscopes are fully automated and the encoded and motorized features reduce user interaction to a minimum. The high degree of automation enables the microscopes to be used in the manufacturing environment: even staff without experience of microscopy have no problems operating the system. All the parameters of relevance for the analysis are automatically stored and can be recalled as required. The microscope, camera and software settings are reproducible and therefore allow comparable measurements.

Due to their store and recall functions, both materials microscopes can also be used for other applications such as in metallography. Thanks to the high magnification and low calibration values, the systems are also capable of detecting smaller particles which makes them a particularly sustainable investment.

The intelligent system solution with the Leica DM2700 M microscope

Leica Cleanliness Expert offers equally precise measurement results and a high level of user comfort in combination with the upright materials microscope Leica DM2700 M. Just like the Leica DM4000 M LED or the Leica DM6000 M, the system measures particle sizes from a length of 5 µm as well as breadth and height and automatically distinguishes reflective and non-reflective particles. Magnification and camera settings are automatically saved in every configuration.

The Leica DM2700 M is an ideal tool for precision measurements requiring the possibility of manual intervention. Users who do not need any encoded or motorized features except for the scanning stage and focus drive can opt for the Leica DM2700 M, a robust system with a highly stable design suitable for tough production environments.

Compact measuring station for the detection of larger particles: Leica DMS300 und Leica DMS1000

An ideal solution for applications that do not involved detailed measurements are the digital microscope systems of Leica Microsystems. Leica DMS300 Cleanliness Expert and Leica DMS1000 Cleanliness Expert are based on macroscopes with encoded zoom optics and are suitable for users requiring fast and reliable measurements of particles of 20 µm and larger. Instead of eyepieces, the ultra compact system features a monitor for ergonomic viewing. Equipped with ring illumination and polarization optics, the system is able to differentiate between reflective and non-reflective particles. It saves magnification, camera and software settings automatically, thereby enabling comparable measurements. Because they have only one single macroscopic light path, the digital measurement stations Leica DMS300 and Leica DMS1000 are immune to parallax errors.
