Right after finishing school with the German Abitur, Dieter Kauer qualified as a police inspector at the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden, Germany. After having gained many years of experience in the field of securing and evaluating dactyloscopic evidence, he acquired the certificate as a dactyloscopic expert. Dieter Kauer attained his microscopic knowledge in courses at the universities in Tübingen, Germany, and Lausanne, Switzerland. Since 1989, he is responsible for the training of dactyloscopic experts at the BKA. Dieter Kauer, meanwhile Detective Chief Inspector, is also active in many committees with the aim to develop internationally consistent standards in dactyloscopy.
