Mark Neil , Prof.

Mark Neil

Mark Neil studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge before pursuing his PhD in Optical Information Processing at the Engineering Department there. Moving then to the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford University he continued his work in Optics and Microscopy as a post-doctoral researcher and college lecturer until joining the Photonics Group in the Physics Department at Imperial in 2002, where he has been Professor of Photonics since 2009. His current research interests include a wide range of multidisciplinary projects alongside engineers, medics, chemists and biologists where optics can play a key role. While imaging and microscopy are the mainstays of his work, underpinning this are the development of technologies that include the analysis and control of light by computer to enable applications in super-resolution imaging, optogenetics and proteomics.
