Torsten Ochsenreiter

Torsten Ochsenreiter achieved his degree in Biology, followed by his PhD and first Postdoc position in the department of Microbiology and Genetics in Darmstadt, Germany. Following a second Postdoc at Woods Hole, USA, and two years working alongside Stephen Hajduk at UGA Athens, Georgia, he returned to Europe to take up a Group Leader position at the Institute of Cell Biology at the University of Bern, Switzerland, where he is now an associate Professor for Cell and Microbiology. His lab is mainly interested in mitochondrial organelle biology and in recent years has focused on the mitochondrial DNA replication and segregation machinery in Trypanosoma brucei, a single celled eukaryotic pathogen.

Torsten has been a member of the Swiss Society of Molecular and Cellular Bioscience, the Biochemical Society of the University of Bern, as well as of the Deutsche Gesellchaft für Parasitologie and the Deutscher Hochschulverband since 2012.
