Research Experience

2014/03 to date

PhD student
As PhD student under the NIH-KI graduate program in Neuroscience, my project my project is held between the two institutes. My long-term interest is to understand the structural changes involved during exocytosis and endocytosis. In detail, I plan to study three critical steps of exo-endocytosis: vesicle merging with the plasma membrane, structural changes during bulk endocytosis, and the fusion pore structure.
Electron microscopy, electron tomography and super-resolution microscopy are the techniques currently used for the study. In Bethesda, USA, under the supervision of Dr. Ling-Gang Wu, I will continue the project, using correlative light electron microscopy (CLEM).

2012/01 to 2012/09

Research Assistant
University of Copenhagen
Intern for the Department of Biology at University of Copenhagen under the supervision of Ivana Novak. I worked on the project “Expression of Ion channel/Transporters in pancreatic ducts”, with the main aim to demonstrate a possible involvement of H+-K+ ATPases in the Cystic Fibrosis disorder. I’ve performed traditional and modern cloning strategies, cell culture techniques, immune-histochemistry and bio-imaging techniques.

03/2009 to 11/2009

Lab Technician
Espikem Srl, Florence, Italy
I worked for an academic spin-off (ESPIKEM s.r.l.), specialized in the custom synthesis of modified peptides, focused on the production of “Multiple Antigens Peptides” (MAPs), a kind of dendrimeric peptides. During the period, I was supervised by Prof. Paolo Rovero
