Marcio Carvalho received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1995. He worked as Senior Process Development Engineer at 3M Company and Imation Corporation in the USA. In 1998, he moved back to Brazil, where he is Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro. He is also a member of the Graduate Faculty in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science at the University of Minnesota. His research is focused on several aspects of capillary hydrodynamics, including coating processes, non-Newtonian fluid mechanics in microscale flows, emulsion stability, and flow of complex fluids in porous media. He has published over 100 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and given more than 50 invited talks and keynote lectures at international conferences and industrial research centers. He has advised 10 postdocs and 23 PhD students.
