Remko Dijkstra, MSc


Remko Dijkstra is an Imaging Specialist from Scientific Volume Imaging b.v. (Hilversum, the Netherlands). Scientific Volume Imaging (SVI) is the creator of the Huygens software, which is specialized for microscopy image restoration, deconvolution, visualization and analysis.

Remko studied Applied Physics at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, where he received his MSc. Degree at the Nanobiophysics research group. His Master thesis focused on two separate projects: one about researching the brightness of single upconversion nanoparticles, using a custom built near-IR confocal microscope. The second project was focused on designing and building a STED FCS super-resolution microscope for customized super-resolution research.

During his study, Remko gained a lot of knowledge and experience about microscopy, image formation and image processing. After receiving his MSc. degree in 2012, he joined SVI as an Image Specialist. At SVI, Remko has worked on several research & development projects and helped many Huygens users worldwide with technical support and research questions. In addition, Remko provides lectures and workshops about microscopy image processing

  • Measuring the 3D STED-PSF with a new Type of Fluorescent Beads

    A new type of fluorescent bead is presented by GATTAquant. These beads, called GATTA-Beads, are characterized by a small diameter (23 nm), high intensity and size uniformity. In combination with state-of the-art STED microscopes such as the Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X and high-end image restoration methods available in the Huygens Software, it is shown that these new beads can be used for accurate STED PSF characterization in 3D. Furthermore, it is shown that the measured 3D STED-PSF can be used to improve image restoration quality in combination with STED deconvolution methods available in the Huygens Software.
