Dr. Christian Kukat is a scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, which was founded in 2008. He works in the department for "Mitochondrial Biology" of Prof. Nils-Göran Larsson. After studying biology at the University of Würzburg, he specialised in cell biology and mitochondria in his PhD thesis at the Centre for Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BBZ) at the University of Leipzig. There, he gained a strong background in confocal microscopy using the model system of mega mitochondria. As a postdoctoral researcher Dr. Kukat joined the well-known Karolinska Institute in Stockholm where he additionally acquired knowledge in mouse genetics. In the meantime he was appointed head of the FACS & Imaging Core Facility at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing.
