Mukta Deobagkar

Mukta Deobagkar did her BSc and MSc in Microbiology at the University of Pune, India and moved to Bangalore to pursue a PhD in Biochemistry with Prof. Dipankar Nandi at the Indian Institute of Science. Here, she studied the effects of host immune responses on the survival and fitness of lymphocytes during infection induced thymic atrophy and septic shock. During this time, she was generously supported by the prestigious CSIR-Shyama Prasad Mukherjee research fellowship. She then moved to the UK as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Cornall lab, University of Oxford to study the function of novel genes in B cell development, survival and selection. She is particularly interested in the synaptic and post-synaptic molecular events important for sensing signal strength and the subsequent decisions that govern immune cell fate.
