Bevor er im Januar 2020 AWS wurde, arbeitete Thomas 10 Jahre lang als Projektmanager in der Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilung von Leicas Nanotechnologieabteilung. Bevor er zu Leica kam, arbeitete er als Anwendungsspezialist für Bal-Tec. Thomas hat einen Abschluss in Physik von der Technischen Universität Chemnitz, wo er als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Physik fester Körper arbeitete.
