Leica EM VCT500 Vacuum Cryo Transfer System

VCT500

Show answer Why do I need vacuum cryo transfer?

During the transfer between different preparation and analysis systems samples have to be protected from contamination and ice crystal formation. Only well-preserved samples yield their secrets in the electron microscope.

Show answer How do I transfer the sample?

The sample is transferred by means of a holder. On this holder, the samples are loaded in the liquid nitrogen-cooled Leica EM VCM working platform. After that, you can transfer the sample under vacuum and active sample cooling between the different preparation and analysis systems using the Leica EM VCT500 shuttle.

Depending on your application, you can choose from a variety of different specimen holders like freeze fracture, double replica and more.

Show answer Can I adapt a Leica EM VCT500 to my existing scanning electron microscope?

Yes, you can. Both new and existing scanning electron microscopes can be equipped with a Leica EM VCT500. A special adaptation process is required. Please contact your local sales representative for further details. In cooperation with the R&D department of Leica Microsystems’ EM sample preparation team in Vienna and the EM manufacturer we can provide you with an ideal solution for your research.

Show answer Is the Leica EM VCT500 compatible with my existing Leica EM VCT100 workflow?

Yes, it is. Just use the adaptor plate to mount your existing Leica EM VCT100 shuttle on any Leica EM VCT500 dock.

Show answer How is the valve movement realized?

The Leica EM VCT500 dock and shuttle uses motor driven, magnetic coupled valves. No feedthroughs are needed for valve movement. There is no influence on the vacuum in the Leica EM VCT500 shuttle.
