Leica Microsystems Showcases THUNDER Imager Cell Spinning Disk at Imperial College London

This event offered attendees an opportunity to experience the synergistic power of combining spinning disk confocal microscopy with THUNDER technology.

March 10, 2025, London, UK –  Leica Microsystems, in collaboration with Imperial College London, was delighted to host a seminar and hands-on workshop at Imperial’s White City Campus to introduce the new THUNDER Imager Cell Spinning Disk system to the local research community.

The event offered attendees an opportunity to experience the synergistic power of combining spinning disk confocal microscopy with THUNDER technology from Leica Microsystems.

Participants also engaged in hands-on sessions with the system, gaining practical experience and insights.

Topics covered included

  • High-speed, versatile, confocal imaging to obtain more statistically significant data from diverse and challenging 3D samples faster
  • Enhanced image clarity through THUNDER’s computational clearing, enabling deeper exploration of 3D cell cultures, organoids, and thick tissue samples
  • Intelligent Automation features of the DMi8 platform, including Adaptive Immersion and SmartCORR to streamline workflows
  • AI-powered image analysis through integration with Aivia AI Image Analysis Software, offering more reproducible and reliable results

“We were delighted to bring researchers together to demonstrate this cutting-edge technology” said Sharad Patel, a Bioengineering Core Facilities Manager within the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London. “The THUNDER Imager Cell Spinning Disk system represents a significant step forward in high-speed, high-resolution 3D imaging.”

This event is part of Leica Microsystems’ ongoing commitment to helping researchers advance scientific discovery through innovative imaging solutions.

About THUNDER Imager Cell Spinning Disk

Extract more convincing high-quality data from complex 3D samples by applying THUNDER to your spinning disk confocal images. While spinning disk alone provides powerful optical sectioning, applying THUNDER eliminates residual out-of-focus light for greater contrast and resolution, unlocking even more details.
