Workshop – Ion Beam Preparation of Solid-State Samples

Ion beam etching is currently the most widely used method for preparing samples for electron microscopy. In this process, the sample material is bombarded with a high-energy argon ion beam. The ion energy and the angle of incidence depend on the specific application.

In this one-day workshop, you will have the opportunity to discuss your sample preparation challenges with our specialists. During several hands-on sessions using the EM TXP (a precision instrument for sample preparation) and the EM TIC 3X (an ion beam etching system), you will learn:

• Why is pre-preparation of samples important?
• What is essential for successful target preparation?
• What makes the “triple-beam technique” special?
• How do you prepare samples with irregular shapes?

Ionenstrahlätzen ist heute die am weitesten verbreitete Methode zur Präparation von Proben für die Elektronenmikroskopie. Das Probenmaterial wird dabei mit einem hochenergetischen Argon-Ionenstrahl beschossen. Die Ionenenergie und der Beschusswinkel hängen von der entsprechenden Anwendung ab.
