Prof. Guzman: Impressions of MyVeo, the surgical visualization headset in neurosurgery

In this interview Raphael Guzman, Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Basel and Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery at UKBB in Basel, Switzerland talks about his first experience with the MyVeo all-in-one surgical visualization headset.

He is convinced that the MyVeo headset will offer surgeons more freedom, more flexibility and a more comfortable situation when performing their surgical procedures. Find out how in this interview.

Stay focused with a unified visual experience

Experience a smooth workflow during your procedures by not having to look at multiple screens for the information you need for clinical decision making.

With MyVeo, you can access a broad spectrum of surgical information in real time in a high- resolution 3D view*, at a click of a button on the microscope handle or via the foot pedal. This includes:

  • The white light image of your operating field
  • Augmented Reality applications
  • Image-guided surgery (IGS) data
  • Video system feeds from an endoscope

*Applications from external systems, such as IGS or information from compatible endoscopic video systems are only displayed in 2D resolution.

Choose the image orientation

OR team members can choose from four different image orientations to experience the surgery live with the MyVeo headset. They can either see from the same perspective as the main surgeon in high-resolution 3D or choose from these orientations: 90° rotated view in 2D, 180° rotated view in 3D, or 270° rotated view in 2D.

*Applications from external systems, such as IGS or information from compatible endoscopic video systems are only displayed in 2D, independent of the selected image orientation.

Level up your ergonomic comfort

Experience ergonomic comfort and ease of movement during long surgeries with the right view constantly in front of your eyes. With the MyVeo surgical visualization headset, you can:

  • Free yourself from the oculars or external monitors
  • Achieve a comfortable upright working posture
  • Connect instantly to surgery, with no waiting time - MyVeo is an interchangeable viewing option for the ARveo 8 microscope.

In addition, MyVeo provides ease of movement with the freedom to easily flip up the lightweight near-eye screens of the headset when needed.

Boost your team collaboration

MyVeo enables your team to visualize the entire surgery in 3D, at the same time as the surgeon. With fewer distractions and no crowding around monitors, a smooth surgical workflow is now possible. Up to three MyVeo users can experience real-time surgery, which is especially useful and powerful for teaching and learning.

The MyVeo 3D surgical visualization headset is also designed to help you stay connected to your team with an unobstructed peripheral sight. You can still see the patient, your hands, the instruments, and your colleagues.

When using MyVeo, there is a generous peripheral field of view allowing you to still see the patient, instrument, and OR team.

An immersive visual experience in 3D ophthalmic surgery

Experience a new dimension in 3D eye surgery with a single integrated view. MyVeo optimizes your workflow with fewer distractions - thanks to its immersive, high-resolution 3D view right before your eyes. Your view is complemented by EnFocus intraoperative real-time OCT imaging and phaco system information.

With its large peripheral view, MyVeo keeps you visually connected to your patient, your instruments, and your team, without losing focus.

Comfortable surgeries for ophthalmic procedures

Free yourself from the constraints of having to operate in a fixed position either via the microscope eyepieces or a 3D screen.

Experience ergonomic comfort and freedom of movement, for cataract, retina and all ophthalmic surgeries, with the right view in front of your eyes. The MyVeo surgical headset supports a more natural posture, which is particularly beneficial to reduce neck strain.

Revolutionizing training and collaboration in ophthalmic surgery

For ophthalmology, you can use MyVeo exclusively with the Proveo 8x 3D digital microscope to revolutionize the experience for your residents and impact the collaboration across your OR team.

Using MyVeo headsets, your residents stay highly engaged with an undisturbed live view of the surgical field right in front of their eyes. It is possible for three headsets to be connected simultaneously.
