As a result there is a growing demand for fluorescent dye-labeled lipids, in particular glycero-phospholipids, to be incorporated in biological membranes. ATTO offers a variety of glycero-phospholipids, carrying one or two fatty acid chains (lipophilic groups) and a phosphate ester residue (hydrophilic group). ATTO-dye fluorescent phospholipids are labeled at the hydrophilic head group. After incorporation in, e.g., a plasma membrane (phospholipid bilayer) the fluorophore is located at the water/lipid interface of the membrane.
