September 28, 2026, Wetzlar, Germany – Leica Microsystems, a Danaher company and a leading provider of microscopy and scientific solutions, today announced the launch of Autiva Spatial Phenotyper, a new spatial biology imaging platform, to help researchers generate results more quickly and consistently. It combines automated staining, multiplex imaging, reagents and AI-powered analysis in a unified workflow designed for spatial biology research.
“By combining our imaging excellence with intelligent automation, an expanding reagent ecosystem, and AI-enabled analysis, Autiva Spatial Phenotyper helps researchers transform complex tissue biology into meaningful spatial insights,” said Nicolas Pierre, Vice President and General Manager Life Science and Applied Solutions at Leica Microsystems. “The platform enables laboratories to characterize tissue phenotypes with greater efficiency and consistency, accelerating biomarker discovery, translational research, and the development of next-generation therapies.”
Autiva Spatial Phenotyper is designed for “walk-away” operation powered by precision microfluidic controls, enabling accelerated insights with up to 3x higher throughput and minimal manual interaction. For biopharma users looking for a high degree of automation, it can run overnight 24-plex experiments while processing up to four slides in parallel. Once the samples and reagents are loaded, the system executes automated cyclic staining, de-staining and imaging, with the ability to replenish reagents mid-run to support large-scale, multi-day experiments.
Purpose-built for multiplex spatial biology, Autiva Spatial Phenotyper captures high-quality images that help researchers identify cellular phenotypes and uncover meaningful tissue interactions within complex tissue samples to accelerate the discovery of next-generation biomarkers and therapies.
Its configurable imaging platform supports evolving research needs. Together with the expanding ATTOAuriga spatial reagent ecosystem and adaptable Aivia software analysis workflows, it allows laboratories to tailor experiments to scientific objectives. Plus, using automated cell segmentation and phenotype classification capabilities of Aivia software, researchers can explore spatial relationships within tissues, turning complex multiplexed images into quantitative results.
Autiva Spatial Phenotyper is available through Leica Microsystems and authorized partners. For more information, please visit https://www.leica-microsystems.com/products/light-microscopes/p/autiva/
